Southern France: Collioure

We went on a fabulous adventure through the south of France with Tom and Katie (organized by Tom the tour guide).  Our travels began on the night of St. Joan, which is apparently a very busy travel day in Catalonia.  We caught the last train out of town and were happy to find some standing room on the busy train.  However, at each stop more and more people piled onto the train.  For two hours we stood like sardines awkwardly perched over our suitcases with many other hot and sweaty people.

We accidentally got off the train one stop too early and had to find a taxi (which is not easy in a small town) which drove us through beautiful mountains with a sea side view.  Once we finally made it to our destination (a little late and a little smelly) we found ourselves in the charming sea side town of Collioure.  The town was a perfect start to our French adventure, complete with quintessential cobblestone streets, old men playing boules, a clock tower, a castle on a hill, a beautiful rocky beach, and crystal clear water.  We enjoyed some good food and drink, and some good swimming and sun.

Dinner: Tapas
Breakfast: Petit dejeuner complet
Lunch: Picnic with baguettes, paté, cheese, and wine
Dinner: Paella and fisherman's stew
Breakfast: Petit dejeuner complet
Lunch: Pizza and wine (that we ate on the platform at the train station on the way out of town)
